Botswana – one of Africa’s top destinations is a land-locked country situated in South Africa and is neighboured by South Africa, Namibia, Zamia and Zimbawawe. One of the most sought after destinations to experience a traditional wildlife safari, Botswana is renowned for its wildlife where places like Moremi National Park, Chobe National Park in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and Okavango Delta contain a huge concentration of game. A large part of the Kalahari Desert comes within the borders of Botswana and Botswana is also the home of the majority of San (Bushman) population in the world. Here’s a travel guide to Botswana which enables the travellers to celebrate the beauty of nature and wildlife at ease.

Okavango Delta

The centre of attraction for safari in Botswana is the evergreen jewel of the Okavango Delta, which is bordered by the rolling Savannah in the east and swarming elephant paradise of the Chobe.

Makgaikgadi saltpans and the semi-desert grasslands – Kalahari

Makgaikgadi saltpans and the semi-desert grasslands of the Kalahari are situated at the distant south of the delta. Some of the major attractions or must – do’s in the legendary wildlife are guided game drives, river cruises, nature walks, canoe trips or unleash the beauty of the wildlife by travelling on the backs of horses and elephants.

Chobe

The Chobe is home to the largest elephant population of Africa. It also has huge herds of buffalo, several antelope species, zebra, and with such plenty plains games, Botswana has an abundant population of top predators in Africa viz., leopards, hyenas, lions, and rare wild dogs. Even bird – watching in Botswana is special.

The saltpans and Kalahari scrubland

Situated in the south of the delta, the saltpans in Kalahari offer some of the unique experiences like authentic cultural expedition with the San (Africa’s first people) and quad biking. It is also the location for green season migration in Botswana that occurs every year from January to March based on the seasonal rainfall. Once the desert waterholes are filled with rain water, huge number of zebras and antelope migrate into the saltpans and Kalahari Scrubland area to prey on the fresh green grasses. This in turn causes the striking prey – predator exchanges since the resident lion brags constitute most of the visiting herds.
