Accessories I can’t travel with without are packing cubes, multicurrency card (I use Revolut, it has the lowest rates I have found) and foldable, waterproof backpack. In case the weather changes I can always put there my camera or iPhone.

Travel is a very enjoyable and fulfilling experience. However simple lapses sometimes end up souring the experience. This happens when you realize, many times, at critical moments, that you have forgotten to pack some accessories. There are some travel accessories that we ensure we pack first whenever we are travelling abroad. One of the vital gadgets is a universal adapter that we use to connect our laptops and mobiles to electrical outlets. The electrical systems vary from country to country and you do not want a situation where you are not able to charge your phone, laptop, or power bank. The other accessory is a set of spare batteries for our DSLR as long periods of photography may leave one with batteries exhausted and no place to charge.

Brenna Holeman

Bio : Brenna Holeman has travelled to 97 countries over the past 12 years, most of them solo. She loves old cars, new books, and whisky.

Besides the things we always take when we travel – passport, camera, phone – I believe that everyone should bring a small notebook and pen. I always write down my essential information (things like my hotel’s address, for example) so you won’t have to worry if you run out of battery on your phone. It’s also great to write down things you discover on your travels and don’t want to forget: people’s names, recipes, types of animals you saw on safari, etc. You can also use it as a travel diary, of course!

My top 3 travel accessories that I recommend every traveller take is a light scarf, bike lock and a dry bag. A scarf is great for covering shoulders when you want to enter temples and it’s perfect for keeping you warm in cold airports and airplanes. A bike chain or simple padlock is essential but often forgotten. If you’re staying in a hostel is great to have your own padlock for your luggage tray. But most important, I found a bike lock extremely useful for locking your luggage to a frame during long train journeys. For example, in India when you take an overnight train it’s wise to lock your bags to something so nobody can steal them while you’re asleep! My last essential is a dry bag. Especially when travelling Asia or countries here you’re going to spend a lot of time on the beach, a dry bag is great for keeping your valuable free of water and sand!

Here are some things different but extremely helpful: 1) Bring a 3-way electrical plug – we have so many items to charge and this helps keep your charging cables together so not to forget one and you need only one adapter, 2) For trips to colder climates, pack long silk underwear (both tops and bottoms) – they take almost no space in your bag and will keep you comfortable, 3) Waterproof camera so you don’t worry about rain and great for the beach, 4) Pickpocket-proof travel travel pants from ‘Clothing Arts’, and 5) A Big Smile to greatly improve your travel experience.

Bio : I’m a California gal who has lived in both Barcelona and Germany, and I aim to explore as much of Europe as I possibly can! Wine lover, foodie, novice photographer and shoestring traveler. I write about all of my travel experiences, language learning tips, and anything food-related.

In my opinion, a must-have travel accessory when going abroad is a high-quality passport wallet. It is incredibly important to keep your documents and money safe as you’re exploring, or it can ruin the trip! I would highly recommend the RFID-blocking variety, just to be safe. While appearance is important, I’d say that when choosing one, you should definitely make sure it carries everything without the risk of anything falling out, and that it is compact enough to carry it with you everywhere.
Other important travel accessories would be a travel adapter (depending on where you’re going – do your research!) and a power bank. In today’s world, we are all lost without our phones, and even more so in a foreign country. Make sure you’re able to charge your electronics at all times so that you can take photos and also have access to maps, translations, emergency phone numbers, etc.

Louise Young

Bio : I’m Louise from New Zealand and a long way from the rest of the world. I travel very simply and do not take a lot of accessories with me. Anything I need I can always buy. In the old days we always said Money, Tickets, Passport that was all. These days I only need the passport as everything else is on my phone.

Equipment for charging mobile phones/cameras etc, eye mask (never forget).

Eric Stoen

Bio : Eric Stoen is a family travel writer based in California. He’s traveled with his three kids (8, 11 and 13) to 54 countries. Every year each of his kids gets to choose any destination in the world (literally) for a one-on-one trip. Forbes Magazine named him the world’s 4th most influential traveler.

For family travel especially, we always bring children’s medicines, blue painters tape (for crafts, making sure containers are closed, and packing breakable items, among other things), a portable clothesline, a Frisbee (for parks and beaches), and a linen towel (for picnics, or wet kids!).

Jeremy Scott Foster

Bio : Jeremy Scott Foster is a travel photographer, blogger, and professional adventurer. He has been traveling the world for 8 years, asking the hard questions, and learning about both the world and himself in the process.

Jeremy has been featured by The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Forbes, National Geographic, BuzzFeed, The Boston Globe and USA Today, among others. You can usually find him on the edge of his comfort zone and jumping from high places in remote regions around the world.

Good carry-on luggage! Your choice of carry-on luggage has all the power to make or break your trip, depending on your style of travel or where you’re headed. For example, I love the Tortuga Outbreaker for city adventuring, but the Eagle Creek Load Warrior International is best for traveling with a lot of gear. I wrote a whole blog post on this subject! https://travelfreak.net/best-carry-on-luggage/

Sam

Bio : A family based in Scotland who love to travel and explore the great outdoors. We also share our tips for travelling with food allergies and food intolerances.

As we travel with our kids then our travel accessories are slightly different to single travellers or couples. We always travel with colouring books, tablets (don’t forget the charger) and toys to keep them entertained. We also loved our baby carrier which was helpful in airports and busy cities. Lastly, we don’t travel without snacks. They become your best friend when travelling with kids.

That has to be the adapter! What would you do abroad without a working and reliable adapter? You would depend that the accommodation would borrow you one. No good. Wherever I travel, I’ll have my adapter with me, so that I can charge my different devices.
I usually pack always the same things. There might only be a bit of difference. Depending on where I go, I pack flip flops or my snowboard goggles. Then everything gets rolled or folded. So far that works nicely, so that I don’t need any cubicles or other stuff. The bags aren’t too crazy in size, so that I always find what I need.
